Alumna Talks Muslim Women, Islamic Banking

Westmont alumna Sarah Tobin ’98, who is finishing her doctorate in anthropology at Boston University, lectures about “From Starbucks to the Headscarf: How Modern Muslim Women Understand Their Worlds” Monday, Nov. 15, from 7-9 p.m. in Founders Room. On Tuesday, Nov. 16, she lectures about “Islamic Banking in Finance: In Theory and Practice” from 3:30-5 p.m. in Founders Room.
Tobin, who received her master’s degree in applied anthropology from the University of South Florida, is a Junior Visiting Fellow at the Institut für die Wissenschaften vom Menschen (Institute for Human Sciences) in Vienna, Austria.
Sarah has given guest lectures and presentations at institutions around the world and has authored articles such as “Islamic Banking in the Global Financial Crisis: The Value of ‘Banking Rightly,’” which appeared in the October 2009 edition of Anthropology News.
