The Westmont Fringe Festival comes to campus April 21, 22 and 25, bringing an array of original performances by students and faculty. The annual theater festival is organized by Professor John Blondell, who is also the artistic director of the Lit Moon Theatre Company. This year the interdisciplinary event includes music and literature as well.
On Tuesday, April 21, the Composer's Concert will showcase new work by students in the music department at 8 p.m. in Deane Chapel. Admission is free and open to the public.
More original music will share center stage with poetry and prose readings on Wednesday, April 22, during Phoenix Night, 8 p.m. in Porter Theatre. The school’s literary magazine, The Phoenix, contributes to the evening, which is free and open to the public.
The main event will be Saturday, April 25, beginning at 7 p.m. in Porter Theater. This performance will feature five short plays, five dance pieces and two experimental films created by students and faculty in the theater arts department. Admission to the Saturday festival is $10, $7 for students and seniors.
Highlights will include “Song of Gratitude,” a dance choreographed by adjunct instructor Victoria Finlayson, and “Will You Feed Me Spaghetti?,” written and directed by Diana Small. Other pieces include “Snoway,” written by Heather Ostberg and directed by Jesse Garcia, “The Cardboard Kid,” written and directed by Justin Davis,” and “If the Shoe Fits,” written and directed by Marie Ponce.
