Lady Warriors Take Momentum to Nationals

The Westmont women’s basketball team cut down the nets a second time this season in Murchison Gym following an impressive comeback March 5 to defeat Azusa Pacific 70-64 and capture the Golden State Athletic Conference tournament championship game. The Warriors will now battle for a national title at the NAIA tournament March 14-20 in Frankfort, Ky. Their first game will be Thursday, March 15, at 9:30 a.m. against Lyon College, Ark. The Warriors previously cut down the nets on Kammerer Court Feb. 21 after claiming their first-ever GSAC regular season championship.
In the meantime, head coach Kirsten Moore says the team will get a short respite. “I’ve read that the NAIA tournament is the most difficult tournament ever, trying to win a national championship with five wins in six days,” she says. “So we need to go in there as healthy and rested as we can. We’re going to rest, ice and take care of our bodies. Winning a big game in front of an amazing crowd gives us momentum going into nationals.”
