Musicians Go Solo at Orchestra Concerto
By
Westmont
The Westmont Orchestra’s annual Concerto Concert will highlight student soloists on Friday, April 29, at 8 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church. General admission is $10; all students are free. Tickets can be purchased at the door or reserved by calling (805) 565-6040.
Student soloists are required to audition each year for the honor of being a soloist. The winners are chosen by the music faculty. This year’s soloists are: Kelsey Lahr, Khachaturian’s Concerto for Flute and Orchestra; Maya Azimiora and Hannah Cochran, Doppler’s Concerto in D for Two Flutes and Orchestra; Megan Wong, Dvorak’s Romance for Viola and Orchestra; and Rachel Teranishi, William Grant Still’s “Kaintuck.” The concerto includes Schubert’s “Overture in D,” featuring the Westmont College Orchestra.
The soloists will be available to the public for a pre-concert talk beginning at 7 p.m. For more information, please contact Trinity Hokama in the music department at (805) 565-6040 or thokama@westmont.edu.
