New Buildings to be Dedicated at Ceremony

Westmont President Gayle D. Beebe and the Board of Trustees will dedicate Winter Hall for Science and Mathematics and Adams Center for the Visual Arts May 5-6. The free, public ribbon-cutting ceremony for Winter Hall is Thursday, May 5, at 5:30 p.m. and the dedication of Adams Center is Friday, May 6, at 11 a.m.
The three-level Adams Center houses the Westmont Museum of Art and is nearly five times larger than the old art center. Its central location on campus allows for greater visibility and gathers all the art classes in one location. The 31,000-squarefoot, narrow building extends from west to east, allowing the classrooms, studios and offices to be naturally lighted and ventilated.
Winter Hall is home to 28,000 square feet of offices, classrooms and laboratories for mathematics and computer science, physics and psychology. The top level has three office areas around a central atrium, one for each department. The center of the structure is open so natural light can cascade down to all levels.
The college kicked off its Bright Hope for Tomorrow campaign in Santa Barbara last April, which began a nationwide tour. The campaign has raised more than $80 million of its $102 million goal toward the construction of Adams Center, Winter Hall, athletic fields and a new observatory.
