A Shower of April Music
By
Westmont
April offers a bouquet of musical performances at Westmont, ending the academic year on a musical note. All performances are free and open to the public.
The Spring Choral Concert on Friday, April 17, at 8 p.m. at El Montecito Presbyterian Church will gather the College Choir, Chamber Singers, Men’s and Women’s chorale and other ensembles for their season finale.
The Composers’ Concert Tuesday, April 21, at 8 p.m. in Deane Chapel will showcase new work by student composers, performed by fellow students and faculty.
The Masterworks concert Sunday, April 26, at 3 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church will feature the world premiere of Steve Butler’s “Resurrection Oratorio,” performed by the orchestra and choirs. A setting of texts from the four gospels, the composition will be a fitting bookend to the Easter season. Soloists include faculty members Grey Brothers, tenor, as the evangelist, and Nichole Dechaine, soprano. They will be joined by guest artists Andre Shillo, baritone, as Jesus, Angela Rasmussen, mezzo soprano, and student soloists.
The season will finish with a Jazz Concert Tuesday, April 28, at 8 p.m. in Deane Chapel.
In May, the choir and orchestra will perform a brief tour in Southern California, followed by the orchestra’s trip to Austria and Hungary.
