Vazquez Named New Dean of Admission
By
Westmont
Silvio Vazquez, a consultant in enrollment management and former vice president for enrollment at Gordon College, is the new Westmont dean of admission. Vazquez served at Gordon College in Wenham, Mass., for two decades in various roles before consulting for Scannell & Kurz of Pittsford, N.Y.
“Silvio is uniquely qualified to recruit young men and women who can succeed in our rigorous academic programs and contribute to the college community,” President Gayle D. Beebe says. “His passion for Christian higher education and concern for each new student will serve him well at Westmont.”
Vazquez will move to Santa Barbara from the East Coast this summer and begin serving at Westmont in late August.
“Silvio will continue the great leadership we have had within our admissions team,” says Rick Pointer, acting provost at Westmont. “We are fortunate to get someone with his experience and expertise.”
Vazquez replaces Joyce Luy who announced her retirement in January after working in admissions at Westmont for nearly three decades.
While at Gordon, Vazquez was responsible for directing the college’s admissions and overall enrollment efforts. An alumnus of Gordon College, he earned his master of business administration degree at Wallace E. Carroll School of Management at Boston College. He held several other leadership positions at Gordon College, including director of the annual fund and special gifts, director of alumni and dean of admissions. Under his leadership at Gordon, the college experienced increases in selectivity, retention, under-represented student enrollments and graduation rates.
Silvio has served on the Commission for Chief Enrollment Officers for the Council for Christian Colleges and Universities and the Board of the North American Coalition for Christian Admissions Professionals. He also served on the Board of Rockport Chamber Music Festival and New Hope Tutorial, a Boston North Shore-based home schooling network.
He earned the 2006 Silver Award by Admissions Marketing Report for the admissions campaign, Your Adventurous Life. In 2003, the North American Coalition of Christian Admissions Professionals awarded him the Regional Service Award for his contributions advancing enrollment in higher education.
Silvio, a native of Buenos Aires, Argentina, is fluent in Spanish, and has traveled extensively through Europe and Asia.
